 Introduction
This is part of a two 8000m peak summit attempt. Prior to an ascent on K2
(8611m), I will be attempting to climb Broad Peak (8047m). This will
provide a safer acclimatization period and will hopefully stand us in good
stead for the attempt on K2. Both mountains will see the use of the same
base camp at Concordida over the 3 months we are expected to be in

Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, 31-07-1954 with the Italian
expedition led by Aredito Desio and organised by the Italian Alpine Club.
The Route: Abruzzi Spur
Now the most common route up the mountain consisting of a combination of
steep snow slopes and difficult rock steps over fairly open ground. The
vertical gain from Base Camp to the summit is over 3500m on which we would
